How much time do you spend online?

Many hours per day… depending upon whether I am in meetings, speaking or at an event or brand meeting.

How do you imagine Twitter changing?

I don’t imagine, but my use will evolve as necessary w/the platform the same as it has with the changes to Facebook. It’s about the people.

Who do you admire most for his or her use of Twitter?

@ValaAfshar

What’s the funniest celebrity tweet you saw in this past year?

I don’t pay too much attention.

How do you pronounce GIF?

JIF

Why’d you start tweeting?

Because back in 2008 @OzSultan told me I had to be on Twitter and @rhollander, believe it or not walked me through the basics.

Hashtag you created that you wish everyone used?

#RonR Return on Relationship

What are some words or phrases you refuse to shorten for brevity?

Do not think there are any. I do very much prefer Love to Luv though.

How long can you go without a tweet?

Not long.

What’s the wildest experience you’ve had via social media?

Not for public syndication

:-)

Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?

Absolutely. It allows me to express myself, get immediate & constant feedback, build my personal brand, and keep in touch, & touch, so many.

What’s the most memorable Snapchat you’ve ever received?

I find Snapchat amusing, but basically a waste of time. Snapchat should have grabbed the money and ran Jeff. Hardly worth what they were offered, although totally get, and agree with FB trying to buy them. Unless some other suitor comes along (or FB ups their offer), or the investment community fools a bunch of us like they did with the Groupon deal, they will regret turning down that offer.

Twitter or Facebook?

Twitter as first choice, but I have become extremely fond of Facebook in the past year or two, and more so every day.

What are six things you could never do without?

My daughters, my daughters, my daughters, my daughters, my daughters, my daughters. I think thats six

:-)

What do you wish people would do more of on Twitter?

Interact, engage, and use Twitter to build relationships… Look People in the Eye Digitally.

Have you ever unfollowed someone? Who and why?

Sure… if I feel what they are tweeting is inappropriate. That is really the only reason.

How do you decide what to tweet?

My head it like a Twitter feed, so Twitter as a publishing platform gives me a great place to share what I am thinking.

What’s your best tweet?

Hard to pick, have a great deal that mean a lot but here is one… Social Marketing is great, but “Socializing” is so much more valuable. #RonR

What feature should Twitter add?

The ability to track and save all conversations and strings of interactions.

Why should people follow you?

Because I add value with a good deal of what I tweet, I interact & engage with everyone who reaches out, & I build relationships that matter.

How do you make your tweets unique?

By regularly tweeting original content, by always responding to people by name, and by adding comments to RT’s.

How has social media improved your life?

By creating the ‘Age of Influence’ where any1 can build an audience, effect change, advocate brands, build relationships & make a difference.

What inspires you to tweet?

Building my personal brand, evangelizing Return on Relationship, and being a Dad to two girls soon to be women.

In what ways do you waste the most time on social media?

I find most of what I do there to be valuable ot me one way or another.

What is one of the biggest misconceptions of Twitter?

That you shouldn’t tweet the same thing more than once.

Terms you wish would start trending on Twitter right now?

#JustBeNice, Just Be Nice, Be Good To People

What will the world be like 10 years from now?

Looking forward to finding out

:-)

What are some big Twitter faux pas?

It is not ok to just use social channels to just broadcast. It is not ok to simply advertise and call it Social Media. It is not ok to block employees from accessing social media sites while at work. It is not ok to discourage employees from building their own personal brands. It is not ok to allow PR agencies to be your social voice without regular input from company employees. It is not ok to let interns set your social media strategy. And most importantly… it is not ok for CEOs to make social media decisions without any knowledge of what it’s about.

140 characters of advice for a new user?

Relationships are like muscle tissue… the more they are engaged, the stronger and more valuable they become.

How will the world change in the next year?

Social is becoming more “social!”: It has taken some push-back from people who use social channels, but brands are finally figuring out the importance of #RonR in the space and that they can’t just turn social platforms into blast media channels.

Who’s your role model on social media?

Dr Seuss… “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”

Ever get called out for tweeting too much?

Sure! But not usually by anyone who truly understand the platform and how to leverage it’s power.

What is the weirdest or most inappropriate place you’ve ever made a social media post from?

:-)

What will the internet be like in 50 years?

I say worry more about how to execute on what is now, which the majority are not doing, than worrying about what will be then.

Is there someone you want to follow you who doesn’t already? If so, who?

My daughter Niki Rubin

:-)

Instagram, Vine or GIF?

http://instagram.com/p/kIm_Mys-ah/

What’s the most interesting connection you’ve made through Twitter?

I have made so many it is hard to pick one. My friend @Tifdip… brilliant networker and relationship builder, good person, and great friend.

Which family member do you wish was on Facebook? Which do you wish wasn’t on Facebook?

My older brother. No one… love finding everyone there.

How do you use Twitter in your professional life?

Publishing, communicating, engagement, interaction, content syndication, networking, and most important relationship building.

As a parent, coach, or role model tell us: How do you use social media to help others focus on all that is good in their lives? Don’t forget to submit a nomination for the #KeepGoodGoing award!

I actively encourage everyone to #JustBeNice with the Hashtag, the Twitter handle @just_b_nice, and #RonR and @Parentng.

What’s the most annoying social media trend?

Disappearing content.
