Back in February 2006 the New Jersey-based entrepreneur set up <a href=\"http:\/\/tv.winelibrary.com\/\">Wine Library TV<\/a>,  an outspoken, down to earth, idiosyncratic video blog and online  community hub for wine enthusiasts. It now attracts over 80,000 viewers a  day, and its founder has become a New York Times bestselling author,  one of the top 100 people followed on Twitter and a SXSW headliner.<\/p>\n<p>Vaynerchuk is a notoriously provocative and inspiring speaker (the video of his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EhqZ0RU95d4&amp;feature=player_embedded\">\u2018follow your passion\u2019 speech<\/a> for Web 2.0 Expo NY is a must-watch). And in his most recent keynote at this week\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalsummit.com\/\">Digital Summit Atlanta 2011<\/a> the so-called \u2018King of Social Media\u2019 has been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techjournalsouth.com\/2011\/05\/gary-vaynerchuk-word-of-mouth-is-the-currency-of-social-media\/\">making waves<\/a> by declaring that \u201c<strong>word of mouth is the currency\u201d<\/strong> of social media and businesses need to stop focusing on the tools,  start opening their eyes and ears, and focus on people\u2019s behaviours,  motivations and interactions.<!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThe [social media] platform isn\u2019t broken; the way 99% of people in this room is using the platform is broken.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.doppelganger.name\/2011\/05\/interview-with-molly-flatt-head-of.html\">classic 1000heads territory<\/a>; but it\u2019s well worth watching Vaynerchuk put it across in his inimitable way.
