This photo is how I imagine Mom and Dad now\u2026<!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"pin_images_0\" class=\"cb_pin_images alignnone wp-image-4791 size-medium\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tedrubin.com\/?p=5293\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4791 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/tedrubin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Mom-Dad-beach-Naples-300x239.jpg\" alt=\"Mom &amp; Dad beach Naples\" width=\"300\" height=\"239\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>It\u2019s been a very special 9 days since I redirected my trip home from San Diego and me my brother Jeff at my Mom\u2019s bedside on Saturday March 28th\u2026 would not have missed this for anything. Something we didn\u2019t have with Dad. We are all very fortunate, including Mom.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cYou only have what you give. It\u2019s by spending yourself that you become rich.\u201d ~Isabel Allende<\/em>\u00a0 *By this standard my Mom, Bernice Rubin, was so incredibly rich! (see my Facebook posts the past few days\u2026 http:\/\/facebook.com\/tedrubin)<\/p>\n<p>We spent very special Moments with Mom during the first few days after we arrived\u2026 sharing memories, feelings, just holding hands.<\/p>\n<p>This is my favorite photo of us\u2026 Long Beach July 1959.<\/p>\n<div id=\"pin_images_1\" class=\"cb_pin_images alignnone wp-image-5296 size-medium\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tedrubin.com\/?p=5293\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5296 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/tedrubin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/IMG_7377-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_7377\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><em>\u201cMen are what their mothers made them.\u201d ~Ralph Waldo Emerson<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As a child Mom was a much bigger part of my daily life than Dad, as an adult I was much closer to Dad\u2026 and my relationship with Mom suffered for many years.<\/p>\n<p>But the past 14 months repaired that relationship, and in my dear childhood friend Michelle Bogin\u2019s words\u2026 brought us a new closeness. A closeness I am incredibly thankful for, but one that makes this all the more difficult. I\u2019ve had a routine of visiting with Mom about every three weeks, have come to look forward to it, even dislike leaving, and will miss that terribly.<\/p>\n<p>I very much want to honor my Mom, a women who gave so much to so many as a Mom, Teacher, and Volunteer\u2026 her Funeral is tomorrow and we will be gathered as a family the whole day and night.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Please add the hashtag \u202a#\u200eRIPBernice\u202c to ALL of your tweets tomorrow April 8th, if you are so inclined. My mom was the one in the neighborhood who always was available to drive to and from any activity, and she insisted on taking anyone home who did not have a ride. She worked full-time as an elementary school teacher but always managed to make the time, be there for anything and everything, and show sincere interest.<\/p>\n<p>Because of her example of always being available, I am the one my girls look to whenever they need a ride anywhere, even Philadelphia and Boston to visit camp friends\u2026 if I am in town, they can count on me driving<\/p>\n<p>Thank you Mom\u2026 for always being there, always being available, and always teaching me the importance of unselfishness.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe natural state of motherhood is unselfishness.
